An Evolution of Visual Freedom

An EVO Implantable Collamer Lens (ICL) eye surgery in is a phenomenal solution for many people seeking to see life without glasses and contacts lenses being a nuisance. If you are seeking a vision correction solution that will put an end to the hassle and ongoing cost of glasses and contact lenses, the EVO ICL may be right for you. We are very pleased to be able to offer this amazing lens implants to our patients in Southern California.

STAAR Surgical introduced the FDA-approved EVO Implantable Collamer Lens (EVO ICL) in the USA in March 2022. The EVO ICL is a phakic IOL with expanded optics designed to cover a wider range of vision. Just like the ICL, the new EVO ICL is made from the company’s proprietary advanced collamer lens material that is biocompatible with the eye, UV protectant, and soft and pliable to promote an easy natural feel for patients. The lens is also available in a toric model for patients desiring astigmatism correction.

What is the EVO ICL

The EVO ICL works with the eye to correct vision. EVO ICL is an implantable lens made of collagen that is placed inside your eye by an ophthalmic surgeon. Unlike traditional contact lenses that go on the surface of the eye, the ICL is positioned inside the eye between the iris and the natural lens where it stays indefinitely. If your vision changes dramatically, however, it can be removed from the eye.

Easy 20–30 Minute Procedure

Is the EVO ICL Right For Me?

  • Are you nearsighted?
  • Are you between the ages of 21 and 45?
  • Are you seeking permanent vision correction but desire an alternative to contact lenses?

If you answer “Yes” to any of these questions, you may be a candidate for ICLs. Schedule a consultation.

What is the Difference between the EVO ICL and the original ICL?

Originally launched in late 2005 the original ICL has undergone some tremendous technological advancements that will lead to improved patient safety and convenience.

EVO is different from Visian in an important way. The EVO has five full thickness ports that allow normal fluids to occur in the eye, virtually eliminating the risks associated with the previous version.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is an Implantable Collamer Lens (ICL)?

An EVO Implantable Collamer Lens (ICL) works with the eye to correct vision. Unlike traditional contact lenses that go on the surface of the eye, an ICL is positioned inside the eye between the iris and the natural lens where it stays indefinitely. If your vision changes dramatically, however, it can be removed from the eye.

Am I a candidate?

If you are between 21 and 45 and nearsighted, you are an excellent candidate for an ICL. It is preferable that you have no previous ophthalmic surgery or history of ophthalmic disease such as glaucoma, iritis, or diabetic retinopathy.

What if I have thin corneas or dry eye?

The cornea is the curved portion on the front surface of the eye. An ICL does not have any effect on the cornea and may be appropriate if you have thin corneas. ICLs do not cause or contribute to dry eyes. If you have dry eyes, ask your doctor if an ICL may be the best vision correction option for you.
