Vision Exams for Children

The American Optometric Association recommends that all children receive their first comprehensive eye exam between 6 and 12 months of age. This evaluation is necessary to determine if your infant is at risk for any eye diseases and assess the development of your child’s visual system. Although babies cannot speak, our doctors have the education and instruments to provide a non-invasive assessment and evaluate for conditions such as amblyopia, muscle imbalances, and many ocular diseases.

It is also important for children to have an eye exam before starting school. Now that your child can give coherent answers to many questions, we can better evaluate if your child needs any spectacle correction. Often vision problems detected and corrected during the examination can enhance a young person’s learning and quality of life significantly. Children should have a complete eye examination every one or two years to check the health of their eyes and test for any changes in eyesight that may require corrective lenses.

Vision Exams for Adults

The American Optometric Association recommends a yearly eye examination for adults to detect and diagnose vision problems help maintain eye health. These periodic checkups evaluate for problems such as cataracts, glaucoma, macular degeneration, and may detect systemic diseases like diabetes and hypertension.

Your annual exam will include numerous tests to determine the type of vision correction best suited to meet your visual demands. There have been better solutions to manage vision problems. If you prefer glasses, our doctors will help you better understand the many lens choices available to you and recommend options tailored to meet your lifestyle needs. We also provide fittings for all types of contact lenses, including disposable or daily wear soft lenses, gas permeable contact lenses, and specialty lenses such as torics, bifocals, and colored contact lenses.
