An oculoplastic surgeon, such as Dr. Jeffrey Joseph, specializes exclusively in cosmetic and reconstructive eyelid surgery. Eyelid surgery is an outpatient procedure with a relatively short recovery time. To improve your appearance, we offer several types of eyelid focused surgery:
- Upper Eyelid Blepharoplasty
- Lower Eyelid Blepharoplasty
- Asian Blepharoplasty (Double Eyelid Surgery)
- Upper Eyelid Ptosis Repair
- Brow Lift
- Eyelid Revision
Dr. Joseph will determine the right surgery for you based on your problem and goals, some basic information about some of the surgeries he offers is below:
Blepharoplasty is surgery to improve heavy, puffy or saggy upper and/or lower eyelids. It is a safe and effective procedure to address excess skin and the underlying fatty deposits that cause bagginess around the eyelid. The lid crease may also be altered to create a more cosmetically acceptable appearance.
Asian blepharoplasty is similar to a standard blepharoplasty, however, Asian eyelids have somewhat different anatomy than Caucasian eyelids. A large percentage of Asian people have either a poorly formed or absent eyelid crease or fold. The goal of Asian blepharoplasty is to form a natural, well shaped eyelid crease, or “double eyelid.”
Ptosis surgery is performed to raise a drooping upper eyelid, improving appearance and vision. This procedure may be combined with other lid surgeries to remove wrinkles and create a pleasing cosmetic result. Ptosis repair may also help patients who have drooping lids from an underlying medical problem or injury. Children with congenital lid problems or droopy lids from trauma may also be candidates for this procedure.
A brow lift may be performed separately or in conjunction with a ptosis repair or blepharoplasty. Sometimes the main reason for abnormal eyelids is the force of the drooping eyebrow pushing down on the eyelid. This must be corrected in order to provide a proper result. Dr. Joseph performs minimally invasive surgery with small incisions and minimal down time. An endoscopic brow lift is one example of this small incision approach.
